Richard Woolcock has recently released a new one-sheet for Tricube Tales called THE R’LYEH TEAM (a play on The A-TEAM) and I felt it would be fun to dive in with a game on the quicker side just showing off fairly default Tricube Tales Solo loops.

Quick Introduction and Set-Up
A week or so ago, Richard Woolcock // Zadmar Games released a new Tricube Tales one-sheet: “THE R’YLEH TEAM.”
You can see it at that link and even go through the publisher’s preview to get the whole thing for free. If you are new to Tricubes Tales, that is essentially all you need to play (and some sort of dice roller, up to and including actual dice). Just fill in any gaps as you see fit.
Because I love The A-Team and felt October [near enough] could be a good time to get a couple of quick spooky games in, I thought about running it for a solo one-shot. If characters or any world lore is interesting to me, I’ll fold it into the broader The Alabama Weird universe.
For this I will be using mostly just the one sheet and Tricube Tales Solo Rules. The latter is not free but I recommend it even for solo games not using a Tricube Tales system because it is pretty useful for a few quick tables. I will be bringing the Oracle of Changes which I will not discuss here because it is still pretty much in Alpha/Beta-testing and so I’ll just be winging it.
The only change to the system as given is that I will be drawing two scene cards. I like doing this because it generates minor twists (if the second card alone is a twist) and major twists (if both are) and it gives a mixture of Traits to use per scene which just feels more entertaining for me. Only the first drawn and kept card goes into the stack for tracking story progress.
As per usual, I’ll give myself three Fudge It tokens just in case things go shockingly awry.
Character Creation
In 2013, a cabal of eldritch mages was imprisoned for a crime they didn’t commit, then proceeded to escape from a warded detainment facility to the Arkham underground. Today, still wanted by the law, they survive as rogue sorcerers and freelance troubleshooters. If you have a problem, if nobody else can help, and if you can afford them, maybe you can hire…the R’lyeh-Team!
Our world is more than it seems. Magic is real, and otherworldly creatures stalk the shadows, preying upon the weak. Most of humanity is ignorant of the truth—and helpless against the supernatural.
You are a member of the R’lyeh-Team, an elite unit of arcane mercenaries. You offer your services to help and protect those in need, while striving to prove your innocence and eventually clear your name.
DOUG’S NOTE: Just to clarify, the “innocent” are more like “innocent monsters”. You are one of the “baddies” but in a fun way.
I think four is a good amount of characters to have. The traditional set-up was a Leader, a Brawler, a Face, and…a… he was the pilot but also wild card. In this case, I’ll say: Leader, Brawler, Face, and Tinkerer.
You are supposed to collectively figure out what got you imprisoned and there’s a quick d6 table, so let’s hit it:
- 6 → Tearing Open a Portal in the Fabric of Reality
I like it. Now, each character needs a Trait (Agile, Brawny, Crafty), a Concept (broad, but think “class”…sort of), a Sorcery (special powers), and a Sin (the seven classics, which is used to hinder and help your character). You also get three Mana and three Cool (essentially Karma and Resolve if you have played others). I’ll also make a quick oracle check to see how the specific character might have been involved with the portal that got them jailed.
But first I want to ask a couple of questions:
- Was it the authorities that jailed the team? (4+) → [3], 2, 2 → No, and… (but changing) = No, it was some underworld cabal and one that had quite a bit of power BUT who has since fallen out of control.
- Does the team consider Eustace Delmont a threat? (4+) → [2], 1, 5 → No. Either they have positive relationship or they consider Eustace a blow-hard.
I’ll be blending the Image Oracle from the one-sheet with Horror Twist table from Solo. One of each at this point.
- Alec Leopold, The Leader
- Trait: Agile
- Concept: Strategist
- Sorcery: Divination
- Sin: Pride
- Involvement → 3,3 Fingerprint + 5,2 Cloak = He was trying to get rid of evidence…
- Rina Stallworth, the Brawler
- Trait: Brawny
- Concept: Security Specialist
- Sorcery: Elementalist (Fire)
- Sin: Wrath
- Involvement → 1,1 Repair + 6,3 Time = She was trying to fix something when she ran out of time…
- Largs Bigly, The Nerd
- Trait: Crafty
- Concept: Mechanic
- Sorcery: Technomancy
- Sin: Sloth
- Involvement → 2,1 Crystal Ball + 3,4 Gasoline… = He was supposed to be the look-out and getaway driver but he didn’t fill up the tank…
- Jonah Clark, The Face
- Trait: Crafty
- Concept: Con Artist
- Sorcery: Illusions
- Sin: Lust
- Involvement → 5,3 Pentagram + 6,5 Cell Phone = He is the one who actually performed the ritual but made contact they weren’t expecting…
They accidentally nearly summoned a mid-tier demon while trying to open a gateway to some nullspace to dispose of evidence (we’ll save all this for later). Then…you know what, we’ll make that the first couple of scenes and go from there.
PROLOGUE: WRONG(ED)
…smoke fills the space which looks a lot like a small-town car garage except the tools are all mystical implements. A good number are on the floor. An older man holds an unconscious younger guy, blood flowing freely from the younger guy’s scalp.
“RINA!,” he shouts, “Jonah is going under…,” as a middle-aged black woman keeps putting out fires that have erupted around a pentagram that seems to have melted into the concrete floor.
A well dressed man is sitting on a table and asks if he can be any assistance. At his voice, the two conscious folks whip their head and see him. You can feel the pressure build in the room.
Outside, a grunt is heard as another man’s voice curses out…
[SOMETIME LATER]
Three figures in purple robes float above the crimson floor.
“You sought to usurp The Vestibule by summoning Baron Deems into reality.”
“THAT’S A GODDAMNED LIE!,” shouts the older man from earlier.
He is standing next to the black woman (Rina) and the younger man (Jonah) from earlier. They are wearing strange magenta robes that restrict their movement. There is also a middle-aged man who has somehow managed to make his robes look rumpled despite their magical nature.
“For your sins, you will be sentenced to The Depths.”
“What?!,” Jonah cries out…
[SOMETIME LATER]
The older man, Alec, is on the grassy shore of an island on a clear day…only the water is too still and mirror like and the sky is the wrong shade of blue. An odd crack runs along it, spidering out in places, like peeling wall paper splitting from the glue.
He is holding his hands out in a specific configuration while mumbling something under his breath. With a few deft motions he reaches out and is suddenly holding a door knob. Refusing to breath, he holds on to it for a second before turning it.
A door that was no there before opens and beyond it a space.
“Let’s go!,” Alec says, and soon the other three are with him and all are walking through.
As the door shuts, the sky splits a bit more and something can be seen beyond.
[Commercial Break!] The Mission
Like a lot of one-sheets, “The R’yleh Team” has a quick 3d6 Adventure generator. I’m going to roll on it and for each one add in a twist in the same way I figured out the involvement, earlier:
- 6 → Haunted Portrait. A haunted painting has been stolen from a private collection and must be recovered before the contents “escape.”
- Twist → 6,5 Cell Phone + 2,6 Food Truck = The portrait is is over a group of strange creatures feasting off of a wreck…very photo realistic like it was painted from the life. Wink!
- 3 → Preaching to the Choirs. A church with a pastor that has a whiff of the supernatural. For this I’ll say the Pastor is a known practitioner and the one who has done the hiring. The hidden church basement is where the portrait was stored.
- Twist → 4,3 Handcuff + 4,2 Wayfinder Points = There was someone trapped in the basement who is the chief “suspect” and that person was apprehended on the way somewhere (secondary plot).
- 1 → Long Arm of the Law (tertiary plot). Somehow the feds are involved and letting them get ahold of the painting OR the team would be a problem.
- Twist → 6,1 Screaming + 6,2 Spy = It’s personal for the person leading the investigation because their partner was driven mad by a supernatural encounter.
[SCENE] THE CHURCH OF GOD’S TEETH
- K♠ (advance main plot to the negative) → JOKER [3] (Twist Table → 1,4 Cigar + 3,2 Splat) → 5♡ Easy Brawny.
- 2♢ Easy Agile.
The Church of God’s Teeth near Huntsville is the location the Team are heading towards when a truck overturns on I-65 and shuts down traffic. The team shows up to find that the Fed team has already tracked down the church and beaten up the pastor (cigar made me think of Columbo and splat for violence). They have left a junior member behind. Not much of a struggle but a bit of a one. Witnesses would be bad.
- Pastor Name → 3,2 Gregory + 1,4 Foster.
- Pastor Demeanor → 6,4 Stoic + 2,3 Callous
- Attitude to Team (1d6, 6-high) → 2, Not Favorable
- Will he share info about the missing person? [2], 2, 1 → No, but he will change his mind.
Alec puts down his binoculars and quietly looks over at his team mates. He nods just once and the others roll their eyes and look put upon by the news.
A few minutes later, they are cutting through woods the rest of the way to the church. Alec gets near the side door while Jonah and Rina move to the front. Down the road, Alec did a quick tarot test and predicted that someone would be hiding inside the church. A fact confirmed by the binoculars.
Rina takes a deep breath an then exhales…and from her lungs she forces a bolt of flame to shoot out…
- We’ll say she does this very physically: Easy Brawny vs 3d6 → 1,45 = Success.
…which strikes a black car which has been poorly hidden around the side. The car erupts into flame. A few seconds later it explodes.
The young agent left inside comes running out with his gun drawn only for Alec to run in behind him…
- Easy Agile vs 3d6 → 3, 4, 5 = Success
…and to grab Father Gregory Foster from where he was tied up to a chair. The blooded old man is glaring at his rescuer. Before pulling him outside, Alec runs up and smashes up a back door to try and make it look like the pastor fled further into the church.
Then he is out the side door, shutting it carefully behind him, and fleeing with the others back into the woods where, hopefully, Largs is actually waiting with a fully fueled car this time.
[♠: 0, ♡: 1, ♢: 0, ♣: 0 | Successes: 1, Fails: 0]
[SCENE] FATHER FOSTER, HOSTILE HIRER
- 6♠ Standard Brawny
- 5♢ Easy Brawny
- Hmm, what divides the two Brawny tests? Twist → 3,4 Boat + 5,6 Hook = Father Foster is terrified of water and threatening him with it would take a bit more work BUT would get more details.
- Is there any way for them to know this? (5+) → [5], 5, 1 = Yes, actually.
“Ok, Rina, dunk him again…,” Alec says as they are floating on a small fishing boat on a particularly isolated stretch of Lake Guntersville. The evening is starting to turn dark.
Rina pulls the drenched Father Gregory up and pushes him back down into the water…
- Easy/Standard Brawny vs 3d6 → 4,4,1 = I am torn. There’s a part of me that thinks it might be funny to drown the pastor BUT it does succeed versus the Easy. Rather than waste a Fudge It token, we’ll take the lesser victory. Victory, but does not get the destination (or that Father Gregory was chaining him up).
- Man they are chasing’s name → 5,5 Shane + 5,3 Reyes, aka the (Image Oracle x1) → 5,6 Fishhook again. Shane “Fisherman” Reyes.
…when she pulls him back up he just stares at her and she slaps him. The sting seems to bring him back out of whatever stoic mind palace he was trying to hide in and he shouts:
“STOP, BARBARIANS! Shane Reyes. You are looking for Shane Reyes!”
“And where, pray tell, Monsieur Gregory,” asks Alec, “Might we find Shane Reyes?”
Father Gregory is once again doing the stare-and-say-nothing act and so at Alec’s nod, Rina tosses him away from the boat into the water. Largs starts paddling back to shore.
“The Vestibule will hear about this…glug glug…,” they can hear behind them.
“Not according to my contacts,” says Jonah.
[♠: 1, ♡: 1, ♢: 0, ♣: 0 | Successes: 2, Fails: 0]
Doug’s Note: I have no idea if Father Gregory is still alive or not. I’ll figure it out on down the road.
[Commercial Break!] Not sure why I was overthinking it…
It has been a couple of days since I could play but I realized in the downtime that I was overthinking it. The first card is the core card. It determines difficulty, track progression, and actual twists as well as setting a base Trait down for the scene.
The second card can do one of four things:
- If it matches in Trait, it is basically ignored. Maybe the task is especially of that Trait.
- If it has a different Trait, the task because both with the difficulty set by the first card.
- (Optional Doug Bonus) If it is a face card, then follow guideline
- Jack = 1 success per character in the scene
- Queen = 2 successes per
- King = 3 success per
- (Optional Doug Bonus) If it is an Ace or a Joker, then you get an alteration. Not a full blown twist, per se, but something is a bit different than initially obvious.
With both #3 and #4: draw again as per standard.
Finally, if you hate #3 and #4, then don’t sweat it.
BACK TO THE PROGRAM!
[SCENE] CHURCH BASEMENT
- J♢ (Advance Reyes Subplot Positively) → …
They have some other way to find Reyes. The basement is a logical choice so they realize to head back there.
- … → 3♡ Standard Agile
- K♡ (This is going to require 3 successes per person at the scene…poooof) → 4♠ Hard Agile
This means it is Standard Agile but will need 3 per character. Without meta-gaming too hard we know Leopold. I think Rina. Really need to use the others somewhere but we’ll say they are out front keeping an eye on the place in case MORE agents show up.

- Leopold → 3d6 vs Standard → 6,6,6!
Ok, that has to be like…super critical considering the theme of this. That’s awesome.
Leopold sees the two young agents sitting in the middle of the room, complaining about the chewing-out they received from their boss. He motions to Rina to stay back a bit and then he pulls out a flat piece of metal from his pocket and works it under the window. Prying it up slightly.
With almost supernatural grace, he gets the window open and before the men can react he has whipped his coat around them. Rina is soon beside him and the two of them start tying the men up and putting in a gag.
“Shhh, fellows,” Leopold says in his best caring dad voice, “We just need to check something.”
It doesn’t take him long to find the candelabra that houses the mechanism to expose the hidden basement. The small dais where an electronic organ and a couple of seats for a makeshift choir lifts up and there are steps below.
Down inside they find…
- 5,4 Policeman Head + 3,5 Raven
…a handwritten note telling Reyes to bring it to the Scarecrow Club.
Leo points at it with looks at Rina with questioning eyes. She shakes her head no.
Leo pockets the note, resets the mechanism, and gets out of the area before the two guards get free. He’ll miss that coat, though.
[♠: 1, ♡: 2, ♢: 0, ♣: 0 | Successes: 3, Fails: 0]
[SCENE] Queen’s Inn
- K♢ → Advance mainplot positively…
They are going to have a contact that can tell them where the Scarecrow Club is.
- 5♠ Easy Brawny
- J♠ (1 per character) → Joker (a minor twist, we’ll say…hmmm… The Scarecrow Club are just like…college kids) → 4♢ Hard Agile
Easy Agile/Brawny. There will be no Crafty checks in this episode, apparently. Everything is good and dandy. Either the show is going to drop or the opening salvo is just making our folks look superhuman. This time we’ll put all four characters in.
Jonah walks up to the building…
- Tricube Solo, Urban Locations 3,3 → Hotel/Inn
…once the Queen’s Inn. It looks shut. The last message board out front has a sign saying “LOW RAT”1 which Jonah would guess was last updated in the late 90s. The overall layout is a 60s style hotel which dates back to the Huntsville-era where lots of out-of-towners were showing up to witness the space program in its leading-up-to-the-moon glory.

Behind the office which provides cover for most of the parking lot and a lot of the rooms, the place looks especially closed down. The only car in the parking lot looks like it was vandalized years ago and several of the rooms show fire damage.
“Hmm, a glamor?,” Jonah muses, before poking out at it.
- Drawing a card until I get a difficulty, ignoring all else. Jack = 1 Effort, Queen = 2, King = 3… 9♣ → Standard.
- 3d6 vs Standard Crafty → 4, 5, 6 = 2 Successes
Jonah makes a few signs with his hands and the illusion in front of him fades. The place does not look much better but the empty lot now has a couple of cars and one of the second story rooms no longer looks burned out. In fact, there are clear lights and people inside.
Jonah chuckles at this and makes a few more hand gestures…
- Again, card for diff → A♡… hmm, was going to ignore twists and such but I think it could be interesting to say that it’s not just people he is working against… → 3♣ Standard Crafty. But I’ll +1 to Hard. Standard will only fool the people.
- 3d6 versus Standard/Hard Crafty → 6, 5, 4 = Success against both.
…and to outsiders it looks like Jonah is suddenly in a nice suit of strange design and cut. Like an authority of some place important but the details shift when you try to focus on them. You sense power from him, but your brain fills in the blanks.
He goes up to the well-lit room and knocks. A…
- Younger {male | woman | non-} Woman.
- Tricube Solo, Urban People → 6,2 Soldier + 6,5 Thief…someone pretty “hard” then
- Name… The Shout.
- Cruel and Angry? (4+) → [2], 1, 1 = No. Though if she doesn’t have a change of scenery could become that way. She’s actually pretty thoughtful it’s just her thoughtfulness leads her to being overprotective.
…young woman, a hard young woman, answers. Jonah knows the type. A person fully immersed in the craft. She eyes his uniform and her brain finishes making whatever gaps Jonah left and she looks surprised. He can see her open her mouth like she is going to say something but she is thinking. Asking herself, which path protects her friends the most.
Jonah feels bad about it, but he reaches inside and tries to yank her out…
- 2d6 vs Easy Brawny/Agile → 6,6 = Yep.
…and she is caught so off-guard that he has her trapped by the time the other three have used his distraction to try and get inside…
- Leopold: 3d6 vs Easy Brawny/Agile → 6,4,1 = Yes.
- Nina: 3d6 vs… → 5,2,2 = Yes, but oddly enough she struggles the most…they must be quicker than stronger.
- Largs: 2d6 vs… → 5,2 = Yes. All four get at least one success.
…and it’s not long before the…
- 2d6 = 10
…9 other students inside are pushed back against couches and chairs. The room inside has had had several walls broken through turning the whole space into a lounge with doors with arcane symbols leading out even further.
- Is Reyes here? (4+) → [2], 4, 6
- Is Reyes up to True Evil™? (4+) → [1], 1, 5 = No, and… while being something like blowhards, the Scarecrow Club are trying to disable the painting…
- Does Reyes know exactly what it can do? (3+) → [4], 2, 1 = No. Who or whatever tipped him off just said he had to destroy it.
Leopold asks for Shane Reyes, aka The Fisherman, and soon a young, blonde man speaks up and admits its him. After a few minutes of talking, they realize that Reyes has no idea that the painting is a doorway to something terrible and was merely told by his contact…
- Image Oracle: 1,2 Blind Fold + 2,2 Chatter =
…”The Voice from the Darkness,” that the painting must be found and destroyed before Father Gregory could use it.
“Wait,” Leopold asks, “Are you telling me that we were hired to…”
Right then, sirens erupt from outside.
Doug’s Note: It said the law would get involved at some point in time, this seems like a good time.
[♠: 2, ♡: 2, ♢: 0, ♣: 0 | Successes: 4, Fails: 0]
[SCENE] THE LAW
- 4♡ Hard Agile (ouch)
- Joker (minor twist…hmm… 2,2 Bleeding Hand + 1,5 Airplane)… a sacrifice + a drone → 5♣ Easy Brawny
Hard Agile/Brawny. A drone is going to be sent in which will shoot shrapnel at the team & Scarecrows but will zoom in on the painting. I took the twist as being the team has to decide to protect the painting or the kids… and we know what the good guys will do. It’s not required but I think having everyone roll on this and burning some Mana sounds fun. The only way they will protect the painting is if they get more than 4 successes.
Jonah looks over to Leopold. “Ok, Leo, what do you think we…”
Then a glass ruptures and a pair of small flat objects float into the room. Some hybrid of magic and technology powering them. The first has a series of tubes sticking out while the second has claws. The first device starts spinning and shooting out flechettes while the second is quickly zipping back and forth, looking for something.
“Protect the kids!,” shouts Rina and Leo at the same time with the former picking up a coffee table and the latter tossing himself in front of a few of the students on the couch.
- Rina: 3d6 vs Hard Agile/Brawny → 6,5,2 = 1 Success. Not sure if fire power will work in a closed space, alas.
- Leo: 3d6 vs… → 3, 6, 2 = 1 Success. Not, bad, all things considered.
- Jonah: 2d6 vs… → 4,1 = Fail. He takes one Cool damage.
- Largs: 2d6 vs… → 6,3 = Success!
Two guys on a chair get bowled over as Largs tackles the entire group and the chair as cover. Jonah, still holding on to the young woman from other, takes two flechettes in his back and gasps in pain.
By the time it is done, the injuries are kept to a surprising minimum but the team looks to see the other drone flying with the painting in its claws.
“It’s the damned Agency2, I should have known! Well, time to go home!,” Largs shouts from where he remains “sitting” in the chair despite it being overturned.
“No,” Rina says, “We were played. Gregory made a fool of us.”
“Rin’s right, fellows. Load up, we are going to get some artwork back.”
Doug’s Note: I got 3 Hearts…willing to call the next scene the final for this story. I think it doing well enough. Will likely have an epilogue.
[♠: 2, ♡: 3, ♢: 0, ♣: 0 | Successes: 5, Fails: 0]
[SCENE] SHOWDOWN
- Q♣ [primary subplot goes more negative…] Father Gregory and his Vestibule chums smash into the Agency cavalcade and get the painting…turns out it was somehow trapped in the basement where they needed a fall guy like Reyes to get it… → 7♢ Hard Brawny
- 7♣ Hard Brawny
Hard Brawny. Shoot. I like to play the final scene where you get either 2 Effort or 3 depending on how well you did and this is a doozy. Even 2 Effort is going to be hard. No pun intended.
Anyhow, let’s see how it turns out.
I’ll treat each 2 success points as getting through one stage (of four) and if we can’t clear four stages before all the characters are kaput, then we’ll toss in a few sacrifices to dramatic it up.
The Shout and Fisherman demanded to come along, which Leopold thought about vetoing but Rina made a good point: the Scarecrows are somewhat responsible for this. They played at big-kid magick without full defenses. They can regain a lot of face by doing this right.
The young agent at the wreck site’s callsign had been DERRICK according to his badge. Just the one name. It is part of the Agency’s standard protocol, now, to assign a single reasonable name (first or last or somewhere in-between) and it hides the fact of how strange the place really is. It became, in many ways, the thing it was supposed to destroy.
DERRICK had barely staying conscious near the still burning wrecking of his car. Two more agents are nearby and too injured to talk. He told them that ELANIA had been taken along with Object 247A to the place. Leopold didn’t need to ask about either of the first two. The Agent would either be obvious or part of a trap and the Object was a full on pain in his ass.
The place was the old Channel 31 broadcast tower off Monte Sano. This worried Leopold. Not only that the Agency was aware of the place the Vestibule had planned to use the Object but the fact that broadcasting might be on the menu.
Now they are at the perimeter and have to get through the outer guards on the gate, the guards at the base of the tower, and stop Father “fuck you” Gregory from where he is currently on the roof holding the painting aloft. A strange purple glow is erupting from it.
Oh, and a couple of people in the dark gray robes of Vestibule are holding ELANIA at knife point. She looks more curious than distressed. Typical agent.
- Rina: 3d6 vs Hard Brawny: 2,1,5… -1 Mana (2 remain) to activate her Fire control = 1 Success. Yeesh.
- Leopold: 2d6 vs … : 1,1 = Crit Fail. Going to actually burn a Fudge point (2 remain), here. 6,2 = 1 Success.
Rina explodes her fire breath in the face of one guard while Leopold slips in the sand and falls…or at least that is what he foresaw himself doing. He corrects his balance and punches out the other. All four, along with the two younger cultists, are now inside. Splitting up. Shout and Fisherman to the base of the tower with Rina and Leopold while Largs and Jonah try and free ELANIA.
- Largs: 2d6 vs …: 2,5 = Screw it. Is there enough machinery around to distract? (3+) → [6],4,4 = Yes, and… the machinery is big and very distracting…a bunch of broadcast stuff… though it is temporary. -1 Mana for Largs to turn that on which distracts enough that he gets a punch in.
- Jonah: 2d6 vs…: 5,6 = -1 Mana to use his illusion powers (just 1 remain). 2 Successes. That actually bleeds over to the next amount…
ELANIA is being held by a station meant to be imitate a stone circle but each of the stones is a bank of broadcast equipment ready to hack into another network. Whatever is coming out of the object, they want it to be witnessed.
Unfortunately for them, Largs is good with machines. He wills each screen to turn on and to blare out broadcasts of their own. World TV dialed to 11. Japanese. Spanish. Dutch. The one Vestibule agent physically holding on ELANIA claps a hand over his ears and gets headbutted by Largs.
The other has three different Jonahs run at him and choses the wrong one.
ELANIA, in testament to her training, gets her gun from the one who was holding her and quickly aims and fires at the guards at the base of the tower.
- Rina: 3d6 vs…: 1,6,4 = 1 more success. This will finish the guards which allows
- Leopold: 2d6 vs…: 6,4 = Leo gets up to the top and clears the distance to Father Gregory…
- Largs: 2d6 vs…: 2,2 = No. Too far away. -1 Cool for trying to use the energy.
- Jonah; 2d6 vs…: 5,3 = -1 Mana (=0)…
As Leopold is running straight for Father Gregory, sparks shoot up the tower and then Largs can be heard crying out from down below. It’s too much physical strain to try and blow the broadcast dish.
Father Gregory looks triumphant until Jonah drops down from above. At least that’s what Father Gregory sees. Like the man flew. Even as the illusion is fading the preacher is stepping back and starting to fall over the edge…
…when Fisherman catches him and holds him up.
Shout has the painting and true to her nemennaam3 she screams out dispelling words before slicing it into pieces.
Later, ELANIA and a recovering DERRICK take Gregory and the other guards into custody.
Any official report magically leaves out how they could have possibly arrested Leopold and his fellow ex-Vestibule mercenaries at the same time. In fact, a pair of college students from M.J. Harrison University are given full credit for assisting in the retrieval and ELANIA decreed emergency destruction of Object 247A.
[ROLL CREDITS] Doug’s Commentary
That was fun. Tricube Tales Solo is just fun. Scenes as short or as long as you need them to be. A dozen different ways to hack in some changes if you want. You could just splice in Mythic or Loner or Gamemaster’s Apprentice Decks if you want. I’ve done two of those. Multiple times even.
I also really enjoyed the story. I almost made a mistake and had DERRICK die. Very nearly forgot that one of the big rules is that everyone lives in The A-Team. Baddies. Goodies. They always walk away (maybe into prison).
Have a few new nuggets for The Alabama Weird. Church of God’s Teeth is very much so related to The Devourer. Vestibule is something new but will likely return. The Agency is something new and might be related to folks we’ve already met. I’ll try and remember the “one name only” rule. And the nemennaam concept.
If the team returns, chances are they are going to be Outgunned with a direct focus on The Vestibule, Baron Deems, and whatever it was they were hired to do all those years ago and framed for…
I have a wide stack of things to play, first, and haven’t been getting a whole lot of time to play them so we’ll see. I’d like to wrap up other things before I start a whole new adventure unless it is in quick one-shots like this.
