I was trying to hold off a bit on playing through The Four Generals until I got my Outgunned Superheroes box and it came in and, well, let’s focus on the positives first…
Look at all of it!
I mostly don’t back Kickstarters/Backerkits at this level any more. I actually try avoid a lot of add-ons and stick mostly just to just stuff like books, [very special, non-resin, non-sharp, non-metal] dice, and solo-mode materials. This one was a bit special. All the stretch goals through the Outgunned Superheroes campaign, the Assistant Director, and of course Action Flicks 3.
It’s so pretty. Books are well done. The content there is great.
Alas, the bane is that somewhere in the process a lot of dice got left out. I am missing around half the Outgunned Dice sets and other stuff (and a bonus set I ordered just to have extras of the “core” set). That makes me a bit sad because part of the reason I had postponed The Four Generals was because around May it seemed likely it would be soon that I’d have the dice and thought it would be fun. Now I have some dice, enough to play (for sure), but it’s a whole thing. I’m sure it will be fixed shortly.
I will say that the paint of the dice is not 100% my favorite but the hand-feel and the rolling is super nice. Reminds me of the first time I rolled the old Fate Dice and immediately saw the improvement over the traditional Fudge Dice. Some dice just hit a sweet spot and these are some of those dice.
I am going back to my general advice/plan for crowdfunding. Get the books. Skip the add-ons. Skip the fluff.
It will likely be around October before The Four Generals return, though. For…dumbass reasons. A pun that should make sense as early as tomorrow. I’m still prepping-as-play some stuff.
