Why “the Breaks” Exist

When I first started what is now called The Doug Alone Prologue, I had been out of the blogging sphere for about six or seven years. There was, from early on, an itch to include a few “non-solo-rpg” posts that discussed my more day-to-day life and I came up with the idea to call them “Fourth Wall Breaks” (after initially calling them “The Doug Alone Check In”).

Very quickly, though, I nixed that concept and instead used the Breaks to talk more generally about the state of the blog, the state of my solo play hobby, and technical issues + considerations. Various bits of commentary in individual posts might include some nods to current events in my life, current hobbies, and such but I wanted to get rid of the crutch of possibly turning this into a personal life blog that might sometimes have solo play.

When migrating this blog to here, a few of the older Breaks would make little sense in the context of the new blog and so it was decided that most would stay behind with only a couple coming over. The original numbering has been retained. Old Breaks can be found on the Prologue.

Note: Some things that are effectively Fourth Wall Breaks might show up on this list but outside of the number. This is at a whim and based on what feels right when I make the post. There is no real science here.
